We received such good audience feedback at the fringe and got a review from San Diego Reader! All the hard work paid off. The New Americans Museum invited us to do an encore performance of part 1 at the Nam Community Gallery & Salon on Thursday, July 21st 7:30PM! Taking some time off then on to editing the live footage! Very thankful and amazed at how God's timing worked out. Hope to see y'all at the show! GETTING READY TO CELEBRATE ASIAN HERITAGE MONTH IN MAY!
I'll be doing a preview performance at the Asian Cultural Festival on May 7th. It's always a challenge to keep the audience engaged since it's an outdoor venue and people are walking by while eating at the same time, BUT I will do my best to entertain and radiate my message out there! On May 18th, I was invited by the Metropolitan Correctional Center to talk about my struggles as an Asian American actress and do a preview performance for the staff! I'm nervous and excited at the same time! I hope to perform for the prisoners someday. There are other exciting events and news cooking! I look forward to sharing more good news with you! It's almost 2am and this is the only time I can work with minimal interruptions since my 8 month old baby is sound asleep. Sometimes I wish I can be cloned, (I understand why people say that now!) because when I start working, I just can't stop! Thank God for all the blessings and unanswered prayers. Sometimes when God closes one door, he opens many more. Happy Friday! #justwrite #IAM #dreamchasing #oscarsowhite
After all the hard work, time and effort, the show is finally ready to be presented in front of an audience! I'm sad that it won't be at the museum, but we are working on new dates and venue. I believe God creates obstacles for a reason, and everything will work out for the best. The show will be that much more polished when we finally share it with an audience. Thank you for taking this journey with us. Your support means a lot.
We are adding some multi-media elements to the show. Experimenting with movements and physicality to dramatize the story. Yesterday, I spent twelve hours writing and shaping the script. It is forever-evolving. I am challenged by the process, it's actually terrifying, reliving some of those rock bottom moments, but that's why I enjoy doing this. Pouring my guts out, ripping my heart open for everyone to see. I read an article about Madonna years ago, she talked about how she dared herself everyday to keep going when she first arrived in New York. And that stuck with me. Now, whenever I'm afraid to do something, I take a closer look at it and do it. This is what artists do. Carving and shaving off the excess until the gold is left, until the dirt transforms into diamond sparkles. Getting closer and closer to the essence of whatever God is leading me to co-create. We are all artists of life, inspiring the uninspired, daring the coward to crawl out of his or her shell. I'm basking in the ambiance, basking in the ambiance.
Being mommy of baby Sky is no easy task especially when writing sessions and rehearsals are underway. The ten minutes showers have become my precious "me" time, it's where I get the most "ah-ha" moments and inspirations for the 90 minutes show! It truly is a blessing I get to present the show at the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum. I envisioned sharing my story at the Chuang Archive and Learning Center while pregnant and performing with the cast of "The Sun Cafe" by Asian Story Theater, and seeing a documentary about the life of Anna Mae Wong last year. How time flies! Baby Sky just turned 6 months last Friday! Hope to see you at the show!
